The University’s arts program and the culinary artistry of our tourism and hospitality management students, who will demonstrate their culinary artistry, will be on display during this special night. Guests will enjoy performances from the nationally recognized NSU Theatre Company, NSU Concert Choir, and NSU Jazz Ensemble. The Spartan Pop Up Art Gallery will feature pieces from the Fine Arts Department.
Dr. Hattie N. Washington (B.S. ’69), will serve as our guest chef, speaker and judge. She is an educator, consultant, motivational speaker, author, founder of Aunt Hattie’s Place and Maryland Women’s Commission 2018 Hall Of Fame Inductee.
Rep. Bobby Scott and Del. Cliff Hayes '91, are the event’s honorary community chairpersons.
Food lovers will discover an array of food presentations to delight the senses with sampling dishes for your tasting pleasure. This delicious exploration of cuisine will include tastings from several Hampton Roads restaurants, our own catering management students from the Tourism and Hospitality program and a special guest celebrity chef cooking demonstration.
A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go directly to support activities of the NSU Visual and Performing Arts program — theatre, music and visual arts. In addition, this taste and mingle event provides our Tourism and Hospitality Management students with valuable experience. When the NSU Foundation, Inc., determined to establish Taste of NSU, we set our sights on raising funds for a worthy cause in an entertaining setting. Beyond that, however, we wanted to introduce an inviting event that brings together Hampton Roads community groups, churches and businesses to share an evening with the NSU community and raise awareness of our University as a world-class facility and Virginia’s largest historically black university, which is celebrating more than 80 years of educational excellence.
