For 80 years, Norfolk State University has provided opportunity and access to a college education without regard to race, socio-economic status, gender or age. One indicator of the quality of that education is our continuous accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) since 1969.
The University has earned prestigious accreditations from 15 different accrediting agencies for more than 20 different academic programs. Highlights of our academic distinctions are listed below:
- Accreditation for four high-demand programs have been reaffirmed: the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (reaffirmation until 2025); the Bachelor and Master of Social Work (reaffirmation until 2022); the Bachelor of Science (Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Optical Engineering) (reaffirmation until 2020); and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology (reaffirmation until 2020).
- Designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security was reaffirmed through 2020. In August, an online Master’s degree program in Cybersecurity will be offered to prospective and current students.
